Fall. That time of year that normally everyone loves. I do too in normal years. Part of my work as a photographer allows me the opportunity to see special places at special times of the year. Last year I was part of a campaign for Destination Ontario and Ontario Highlands. It’s known as tourism region 11. We traveled for a few days through Renfrew and Lanark Counties. We rode bikes, enjoyed time on a boat, enjoyed windy roads lined with trees on the brink of fall blooms. The Ontario Highlands is made up of five counties. They stretch from Smith Falls in the south, Deep River in the north east and Haliburton in the west. Each region has its own unique features. For this particular trip we explored through Haliburton and Lanark counties.

The rivers are a sight to be seen. They can be fished in and paddled on. They are there to be explored.

It’s tricky business getting the best views and the best colors. Come to early, and you will be disappointed. Come to late and they will be past. It’s the fun of annually trying to make the right timing call.

Just a roadside view of the colors and water. Pretty much any road you drive in the highlands will give you colors like these.
